May 26, 2023: 30 volunteers removed debris from the 800m waterline at the Koynikha River reservoir in Iskitimsky district, which is a popular vacation spot for residents and visitors of the industrial township of Linyovo, who enjoy spending time there fishing or just enjoying nature. Unfortunately, the reservoir is heavy with household waste because of endless tourist flow, though the situation gets better thanks to annual clean-up campaigns run by El 6 Novosibirsk, with volunteers demonstrating care for the environment by their example.
The participants were provided with everything they might need, including gloves, bags, fresh pastries and hot tea. As usual, volunteers worked as a team and with passion and carefully cleaned the allotted site. They sorted glass, plastic and metal and packed waste in separate bags, each of the finds to be recycled and once again be of use to people.
“The campaign is called Clean up after Yourself for a reason,” says Daniil Popov, a volunteer of the Youth Council. “Our goal is to remind our fellow countrymen of one simple truth: it is clean where they do not litter. Please take care of nature. Used bottles and plastic bags should be in a trash can, not on the bank of our popular reservoir.”
“We were happy to spend this day together with our young workers,” said Nadezhda Trushina, Chairwoman of the Old Workers’ Council at El 6 Novosibirsk. “It is nice to see that we are succeeded by guys for whom respect for the environment is a life credo. They are the future of our village and our country.”
The Clean up after Yourself campaign runs in 50 regions across Russia as field missions to the most littered areas, including protected areas, reservoir banks, city parks, and green spaces, to bring together more than 3,000 people.
